Increasing physical activity is key area to improving the health and well-being of Nebraskans. This program looks at ways to build your personal fitness by making small changes in your daily activities. It also gives specific guidance for a walking program. What a good way to move toward healthier lifestyle!
Growing Communities of Character At Work

 

People who are interested in strengthening their job skills and understanding why strong character is so important in the workplace will gain from this program:
•an understanding of why ethical behavior is important at the workplace;
•hands-on examples of how concepts, such as respect and responsibility, fit in their workplaces and;
•ideas for enhancing their own ethical decision making.

Long Term Care: Options, Costs and Preparation

 

Todays life expectancies are longer than those of previous generations. As such, we must plan better for the oldest stage of our lives. This study lesson will distinguish between types of long term care available. Current costs of care will be presented with a brief discussion of funding options that include long term care insurance. Resources for decision-making also will be provided.

Parents Again: Grandparents Becoming "Grand" Parents

 

Instead of a quiet retirement, sweetened by delights of occasional visits with grandchildren, many grandparents are finding themselves as parents again. Grandparents who are faced with the prospect of raising their grandchildren are confronted with an endless stream of questions and challenges. This program offers guidance to this exciting and challenging stage of life.

Positive Communication in Families

 

Research at the University of Nebraska for almost 25 years has focused on the qualities of strong families and how we can put these findings to practical use. One of the important family strengths is positive communication. This lesson explores aspects of family communication that bring family members closer together and offer some suggestions for activities that help increase positive interaction in the home.

Servant leadership is a practical approach that supports people who choose to serve first and lead as a way of expanding service to individuals. This program covers how servant leadership encourages collaboration, trust and the ethical use of power and empowerment.

Telemedicine: The Future is Here

 

This lesson will address the basics of telemedicine's current uses and related future issues for both providers and consumers. Telemedicine offers the opportunity of improving the quality of health care for Nebraskans now and in the future.

When a Loved One or Dear Friend Dies

 

This lesson will help participants better understand the psychological and social aspects of grief in the aftermath of the death of a loved one or dear friend and learn effective ways of enduring loss and growing positively toward the future. Participants will focus on how they, as individuals and members of families, have coped positively with the loss of a loved one or dear friend.
