Quilts of Valor

The Nebraska National Guard would like to give a BIG THANK YOU for those who participated in the 2011 Nebraska 4-H Quilts of Valor Challenge.  The National Quilts of Valor Regional Director Sara Kenny took the 40 Quilts Of Valor quilts home, washed them, placed them in pillowcases and read the stories that 4-Hers wrote. She presented them to the Nebraska National Guard who is very thankful to receive them.  Lori Neumann from the National Guard says "Please Thank the 4-H group for all of their hard work! The Service Members will be so excited to receive one of these quilts. The notes from the kids are a nice touch!"

Below is a photo of National Guardsmen receiving the quilts.Remember, that in 2012 the Nebraska 4-H Quilts of Valor Challenge will continue. If your county has not already received some of the free fabric or would like to do additional quilts, please contact Julie in Adams County.

Adams County Family & Community Education Clubs

Adams County Family & Community Education (FCE) was founded as extension clubs in Adams County meeting in local homes in the 1920’s. Members meet to learn, do social activities, take on new interests and better our local community. We support the Adams County Spelling Contest, book distribution at the county fair, the 3rd grade Environmental poster contest, the 5th grade writing contest and two $500 scholarships to an Adams County graduating High School Senior. Adams County FCE donates generously to the community from profits earned from the FCE Food Booth at the County Fair. We welcome interested people to contact the Extension Office for further information.

On-Farm Research Yields Valuable Data for Producerscornstalks

Numbers show that Nebraska farmers are producing more crops on less land, but farmers are still trying to grow more.  UNL Extension Educators say that with the help of those producers they can gather data to do just that.  Gary Zoubek, UNL Extension Educator in York County, says on-farm research done with producers can be the answer other producers are looking for.   More on this topic from  KOLN-KGIN 10/11 Nebraska Central News...

 On-Farm Researchcornfield

Corn growers can take an active role in a new on-farm research project sponsored by University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension in partnership with the Nebraska Corn Growers Association. The goal of the Nebraska On-Farm Research Network (NOFRN) is to implement a statewide on-farm research program addressing critical farmer questions. Three corn production research topics will be targeted in 2012: irrigation - water application management; nitrogen management; and corn population study. Growers wanting to learn more about the Nebraska On-Farm Research Network and how to participate should contact Glewen at 402-624-8030 or kglewen1@unl.edu or Gary Zoubek at 402-362-5508 or gzoubek1@unl.edu. For information on past on-farm research results and information about the 2012 initiative, visit the CropWatch: Farm Research website .
